Horse Trailer Loading
Trailering can be one of the most emotional
occurrences in your horse's life. Can you
imagine being pushed, rushed or shoved into an
unstable enclosure. It may initially take
some time and energy, but the payoff is well
worth it. There are many techniques that
can be used to accomplish this task - we thought
we would bring you one such method.
Enjoy the video below depicting one loading
technique and featuring Sundance, a 3-year old
Mustang learning the "ins" and "outs" of a
trailer for the first time.

Better Gas Mileage on
Trailer Towing Vehicles
|
One of the most
frequent factors in poor engine
performance and fuel economy that we see
in our service department is lack of
proper maintenance. Today's
high-tech engines require clean engine
oil of the correct type and viscosity,
clean fuel filters and clean air
filters.
We use only genuine Motorcraft fluids
and filters - the same parts that were
factory installed on your vehicle when
it was new. Motorcraft engine air
filters are manufactured by Donaldson
and are designed to trap smaller
particulate matter than lower quality
aftermarket brands. Motorcraft oil
filters and Motorcraft heavy-duty engine
oil is also engineered for use in your
Power Stroke diesel engine.
Every time the expert technicians in our
service department change the oil and
filter on your trailer towing vehicle,
we perform a 21-point inspection of your
vehicle as recommended by Ford Motor
Company. We don't stop at just only
checking and topping up all the fluids
like some, we also check the exterior
lighting, the operation of wipers and
washers, the condition of heater and
radiator hoses, air filter, drive belts,
battery and battery terminals, exhaust
system, drive axles, steering and
linkage, front suspension components,
brake system including linings, lines,
hoses and parking brake. We also check
for any fluid leaks from the power
steering system, engine, transmission,
cooling system, axles and transfer case.
Finally we measure your tire tread
depth, inspect for damage and abnormal
wear patterns and then set tire
pressures to factory specifications.
This comprehensive inspection allows us
to identify concerns with your vehicle
in the early stages, saving you time,
possible additional damage and expense,
as well as the inconvenience of an
unscheduled breakdown, certainly a huge
consideration far from home while towing
your trailer with livestock onboard.
Ford Motor Company has outlined the
recommended scheduled maintenance
specifically for your vehicle and type
of driving. Oil and filter changes at
regular intervals are very important,
but the manufacturer also recommends
replacement of fuel filters,
transmission fluid replacement and
engine coolant service at specific
intervals.
The combination of having our trained
experts perform a complete 21-point
inspection every service visit, along
with performing the other scheduled
maintenance as outlined in your owner
guide will not only give you peace of
mind, but may help to reduce your total
cost of ownership and enhance
your vehicle's resale value at trade-in
time.

The Basics of Understanding Your Equine
Athlete's State of Wellness
Your equine - be it a horse, pony, mule
or donkey - when approached as an
athlete, has many facets that contribute
to his overall wellness. To manage
and maintain the body means to manage
and maintain a multiplicity of facets.
For instance, improving the
environment and body can
be a good step toward building a secure
mental attitude (mind) for your
healthy athlete.
As a prey
animal, the horse's most critial
focus for survival is the mind.
When balance exists, the horse is
content, confident and pain free.
When there is an imbalance, the
negative effects on the autonomic
nervous system can potentially
result in behavorial issues (such as
pacing, cribbing, uncooperative
attitude or biting), ulcers, colic,
adrenal gland exhaustion, disease
susceptibility and poor overall
condition. Pain, fear, anxiety
and discomfort are contra-survival
to the horse. It is the horse
owner's responsibility to eliminate
these problems and continuously
improve the quality of life for his
or her horse.
Focusing on
just one area and diminishing the
importance of other areas is a
recipe for an unhealthy horse.
Utilize a well-rounded team of
equine professionals -
veterinarians, acupuncturists,
certified chiropractors,
physiotherapists, trainers,
dentists, farriers and equine
nutritionists - to balance the
special needs of the horse.
It takes an investment of time,
passion, ingenuity and money to
achieve your horse's wellness.
Each month Dr. Frick
will continue to expand on what it
takes to achieve total
Fitness in Motion(TM).
