HOMEMADE CHICKEN POT PIE
Chicken Pot Pie
"A delicious chicken pie made from scratch with carrots, peas and celery. A delicious and heartwarming meal."
Ingredients:
1 pound skinless, boneless chicken breast
halves - cubed
1 cup sliced carrots
1 cup frozen green peas
1/2 cup sliced celery
1/3 cup butter
1/3 cup chopped onion
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon celery seed
1 3/4 cups chicken broth
2/3 cup milk
2 - 9" unbaked pie crusts

Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees
2. In a saucepan, combine chicken, carrots, peas, and celery. Add water to cover and boil for 15 minutes. Remove from heat, drain and set aside.
3. In the saucepan over medium heat, cook onions in butter until soft and translucent. Stir in flour, salt, pepper, and celery seed. Slowly stir in chicken broth and milk. Simmer over medium-low heat until thick. Remove from heat and set aside.
4. Place the chicken mixture in bottom pie crust. Pour hot liquid mixture over. Cover with top crust, seal edges, and cut away excess dough. Make several small slits in the top to allow steam to escape.
5. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until pastry is golden brown and filling is bubbly. Cool for 10 minutes before serving.

WITH COUGH - IT MIGHT BE AN INFECTION
HORSE COUGHING

With the weather changing in most parts of the country, beware the horse that's coughing. It could be just a mild infection, or it could be something more serious. To make sure your veterinarian has good information should you need to call him to the farm, start by observing your horse.

Notice when he coughs: Is it immediately after eating? At the beginning of a ride? Or during the entire ride? Maybe you've just heard one or two coughs during the day.

Take your horse's temperature: Anything above 101 is a reason to call your veterinarian.

Notice the quality of the cough: Is a deep cough or more of a dry cough? Check you horse's respiration rate by counting his exhales for 15 seconds. Then multiply that number by 4. If his rate is over 20 (normal is 10-20) he may be in some distress. Call the vet.

Some horses develop chronic coughs and allergies, just as humans do. If a cough continues for more than three weeks and there is no sign of bacterial or viral infection (other symptoms such as a runny nose and a fever) he may have a stable cough or an allergy. Your veterinarian can provide a clear diagnosis and offer treatment options.

SilverLite TRAILERS - WHY SILVERLITE?
SilverLite
While SilverLite Trailers are not as common as some of the big-name trailers out there, they are definitely worth taking a look at.  What makes them stand apart?

All new SilverLite Trailers come with a transferable 10-Year Limited Structural Warranty - any structural issue (like the welding and frame) is under Warranty for a full decade.  That speaks for itself in their confidence of a top-quality trailer!

FLOORING
SilverLite features a 1/8" aluminum flooring supported
on 4" I-beams with 9" centers for incredible strength
and durability. The I-beams are bigger and placed closer together, which means your floor is stronger, safer and will wear better than the competition. In addition to placing the I-beams closer, we also run two flat bar straps under the I-beams to prevent twisting.
WELDED AXLES
SilverLite welds the axles to the frame of the trailer for
safety and for improved tracking and alignment. Their
axles are rubber torsion suspension axles to help with
cushioning bumps, pot holes or rough spots in the road
with less bouncing. The rubber torsion suspension works
independently for each wheel, which means that road
impact that affects one side of the trailer aren't
transferred to the other side. This results in both a
smoother ride and less wear on the horse, trailer, tow
vehicle and driver.
NOTCHED REAR RUBBER DOCK BUMPER
SilverLite pays special attention to your animal's safety
by notching the 3" rear rubber dock bumper so that the
rear door latch and cams are recessed to prevent injury
by a hoof catching during loading or unloading. This type
of attention to detail is what has made SilverLite a
name to be trusted in the industry.
ONE PIECE ALUMINUM ROOF
SilverLite Trailers uses a one-piece aluminum roof for
improved water resistance. They don't use composite
materials as they believe the all-aluminum one-piece
design is the best choice for quality, durability and leak
resistance.
HOLD OPENS
All of the exterior doors come with a hold-open to prevent
movement that could spook an animal during loading. If a
door doesn't have hold-opens it can swing around in the
wind and could even injury someone or an animal.
RECESSED ROOF VENTS
SilverLite Trailers recesses their roof vents to prevent
animals from catching a sharp edge or hurting
themselves. There is one vent per stall for air flow and
circulation.

SilverLite Trailers are manufactured in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.  They are made to stand up to the rigours of towing in the Rocky Montains.

If you've never experienced a SilverLite trailer, stop by so you can see for yourself what makes them such an incredible trailer!
Top 10TOP 10 WAYS TO RUIN A GOOD HORSE Written By:  Kasey Aldridge (www.www.dfwridinglessons.com)
1. Let all of your friends ride him unsupervised
You wouldn't let an untrained driver drive your car would you? Rough hands and mixed signals can cause a horse to become frustrated and eventually start misbehaving.

2. Put the wrong saddle on him
Have you ever had a pair of shoes that didn't fit?  Hurts doesn't it?  Not all saddles fit all horses - if there are any pressure points on his back, that is going to hurt REALLY bad after awhile.  Be sure to get your saddles fitted properly to
your horse for the most comfort.

3. Use the wrong bit
When you go to the tack store, have you ever wondered WHY there are hundreds of bits to chose from? Different bits have different controls depending on how the horse was trained and what you are using him for, the wrong bit can be very uncomfortable, painful and even useless for what you want to do.

4. Always blame the horse for the problem
Was the horse nice when you bought him and now he is REALLY bad? Horses don't just become bad on their own. A horse will always act like a horse is supposed to act when reacting to inexperienced handling. We have seen horses go from good to bad in as soon as a week to a month with improper handling. After having your horse evaluated by a good equine vet to make sure there are no pain issues, go and see a very good trainer or instructor and ask them to evaluate you, your tack and your horse. You may be surprised at what they find. Don't be surprised (or offended!) if it turns out to be rider error. If your horse behaves perfectly for the trainer, then it is you, and/or your tack, period. If your horse misbehaves for the trainer, then you may want to consider sending him to one for a short refresher course.

5. Never discipline him
Horses will test their riders - if you don't discipline him immediately when he acts up you are telling him that it is OK to be bad. Take lessons with a good instructor and learn how and when to discipline your horse when he misbehaves. It is your responsibility as a horse owner to make sure that your horse has good manners.

6. Make excuses for his bad behavior
"He is young, that is why he bites and kicks"; "he had a bad experience in the trailer, that is why he doesn't like getting in one"; "I shouldn't have brushed my hair out of my eyes, or he wouldn't have bucked me off".  There are no excuses for this. Why do you see other more experienced people NEVER having these types of problems? Because they don't make excuses. They deal with the issues until they are no longer issues and if they can't do it then they find someone who can.

7. Stop learning
"Where education ends, abuse begins." The more you learn about horses the more you realize that you don't know. Most beginners think there are about ten things to learn about horses, most advanced horse people know there are about ten thousand things to know. Getting to that point is one of the biggest break throughs that students have when it comes to learning. It can be very humbling. Keep listening and learning, nobody learns anything when they think they know it all.

8. Don't fix a horse that startles easily
Ever notice that the same horses seem to get hurt over and over? Horses that "become unglued" at every little thing can become a walking vet bill, constantly hurting themselves. Spending some time truly "bomb proofing" your horse and training him to think first rather then react can be one of the biggest money savers you ever do.

9. Buy a horse that is too young, too well trained or not trained enough for your skill level
"Green on green equals black and blue" A green (untrained) rider on a green horse will not work. 100% of the time you will ruin the horse for life! That is one of the biggest reasons why we see people who don't do anything with their horses. Don't buy a young horse to "grow up" with your children.
